Requirements for Volunteering on Aride

• Enthusiasm!
  
• A university degree in a biological science, or good practical skills, or a willingness to learn!
  
• Independence and the ability to work without close supervision.
  
• Motivation and good working discipline.
  
• Good physical fitness, there may be a lot of physically challenging work.
  
• Medically fit, This is essential. It is not advisable for anyone with a history of medical problems to apply as the nearest hospital is several hours away.
  
• You must be a good swimmer and confident in your ability to swim in difficult conditions, please be honest about this in your application.
  
• Initiative and the ability to live as part of a very small island community with restricted access to facilities and society.
  
• Any language skills are an advantage as the island is visited by people of many nationalities. Again please be honest about this in your application, six languages are spoken fluently by the present island residents (January 2005) you need to be able to communicate in at least one of them!
