As well as welcoming back several regular human visitors this month, Aride is now starting to see some of its annual migrant bird visitors. Short and tubby silver sanderlings (Calidris alba), striking chunky-billed crab plovers (Dromas ardeola) and a plump grey plover (Pluvialis squatarola) have all been spotted in the recent weeks, along with a vagrant common snipe (Gallinago gallinago). We expect to see more migrating visitors during the coming months, as birds seek respite from their chilly northern breeding grounds over the winter.
