It has been excellent news from the Aride magpie robin population this June, as we have seen the arrival of two new fledglings on the island. One has been from an established pair on the plateau, the parents both older birds and part of the original group that were introduced from Fregate island back in 2002. But the other fledgling is from a new pairing; two birds which have established a territory up on the hill and now successfully breed up there, away from the security of the plateau and the supplementary food and watering stations. The other may be more significant aspect of this success is that this is the first time an Aride born pair of birds have successfully bred, so it is a major step forward in the establishment of a healthy self sustaining population here on the island.
